Online gaming seen as cheap entertainment in recession - New Mexico Business Weekly:

Reston, Va.-based (NASDAQ: SCOR) says it found a significantt increase in the size of the gaming audiencde during the past driven in part by the reality ofeconomicx challenges. The category attracted 87 million U.S. visitors in May, up 22 perceny versus year ago. In its reportr comScore says that Yahoo! Games ranked No. 1 in the categoryh with 19.4 million visitors, representing a 6 percentf increase over thepast year, followed by EA Online with 18 millioh visitors (up 34 percent), Nickelodeo Casual Games with 14.8 million and WildTangent Network with 13.8 milliobn (up 16 percent).
GSN Gamesx Networks achieved particularly strong gains in the past growing 563 percent to 6million visitors, due primarilty to the additions of entities such as WorldWinner.conm and CrazyMonkeyGames.com. "Online gaming continues to be one of the top gaininvg categories over the past year growingh at ten times the rate of thetotap U.S. Internet population and reachintg nearly one out of every twoInternert users," said Edward comScore director of gaming "And the growth in the categoryg is occurring not only at the top gaminh destination sites, but also through viral distribution platforms, includintg widgets and applications.
In fact, some onlind gaming companies that distributed their gamezs across sites are reaching as many people as the top onlinrgaming sites."
